Explore U.S. - Part 03: Oregon + San Juan Island

WHY HELLO THERE MY AWESOME PEOPLE. I’ve missed you so much!! Before we get started with the fun stuff, I just want to let y’all know that I have not forgotten about any of the promises/commitments I have made – in fact, I’m probably doing just the opposite (stressing over them like CRAZY.) If I am late for deadlines or seem negligent/dead, sorry!! I’m really pretty awesome most of the time. NOW. Onto the fun stuff!

Grants Pass and Eugene, Oregon: I know why Mat Kearny left, but it’s also good to be back. Evergreens and caffeine actually describe both of these places really well. We come to visit family and don’t do much else. It’s a long week of smiling, not taking enough pictures, and falling asleep on my aunt’s couch. It is full hearts and hopeful goodbyes and goodness.

San Juan Island, Washington: WOW. Can I just scream for all of eternity?? I legit don’t know if I can put into words how full and bursting my heart is. First let’s just say that San Juan Island is beautiful beyond belief. We take the RV over on a ferry WHICH IS WEIRD. It is fierce, cold wind and friendly people and so much water. I properly flail over Friday Harbor and immediately scope out the priorities: ice cream shop and bookstore.

My sister and I meet two of the most awesome humans ever, our long-time internet friends Susan and Ashlyn IN REAL LIFE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. We all scream and flail and laugh and say things like “I can’t believe this is real!!” and “my brain can’t even process this!!” and other normal IRL meeting stuff. On Monday night, we present our documentary Voiceless to a theater full of people and I almost squeal when the title comes up on the screen. We get a standing ovation. I don’t know how I stop myself from bursting into happy tears.

The rest of the event is full of incredible people and seeing orca whales for the first time ever and flailing and late nights on porches with too many voices to keep track of and pictures and dead batteries and full camera cards. On the last night, there are bittersweet goodbyes and people that I am sososososo grateful for. There’s a sunset and whales calmly swimming by, breaching and breathing. Poof, poof, poof. Exhale, inhale, back down. There’s a rainbow and distant live music and soft, red light and I can’t even describe it with my stupid, fragile words. But I’m glad I have shades on because I’m crying just a little. My heart just feels so overwhelmed, so perfect, so content with this moment – it’s more than I can handle. Wow.

SO YEAH: This trip is over! OMGOMGOMGMG. I’m not home yet, so here’s to vegging on the couch and driving 3,000 miles home. Hahaha. Right now I’m sitting in a café getting Wi-Fi and in approximately one hour, I’m going to be getting back on the ferry and heading across the water to Anacortes, Washington. From there, we will be heading home!

I can’t wait to:
- Have consistent Wi-Fi
- SPAM Y’ALL’S BLOGS OMG
- Get some quality Pinterest time
- SEE MY PIANO AGAIN WAAH
- Actually BREATHE without bumping into/stepping on a family member wow

You guys: are literally THE BEST PEOPLE EVER for sticking around. Like I still don’t know how it’s possible that you’re STILL following my blog?? After I’ve been gone for what feels like A YEAR?? *gives you all super big hugs and all the ice cream*

How I will (hopefully) prevent myself from going crazy on the drive home:
- Listening to music (which is a good self-preservation tool in general)
- Reading Fairest (I bought the paperback yesterday! Because lol I’m broke)
- Plotting morrree booookks (because I can)
- Wringing my hands and wailing in anticipation of HOMMMEE
- Definitely eating chocolate

How is everyone?? Have I really been away for only 7 weeks so far? BECAUSE IT FEELS A LOT LIKE 52. OMG. Tell me everything I’m missing out on! So that, y’know, I can feel guilty and sad. I promise I’m going to binge-answer (yep that’s a thing now) all of y’all’s comments when I get home!!

until then,
abbiee
