Of Dragons and Cake and Books: an interview with Cait @ Paper Fury

YOU. GUYS. (You know how much I hate starting a post like that? I do.) But freaking out is totally forgivable necessary today because GUESS WHAT. The wonderful Cait from Paper Fury is here for a fabulously exclusive interview! (Can I put a hundred more exclamation marks there? Kay cool.) Cait is not only an incredible book photographer, impeccable blogger, expert reader and review-writer, she’s also an author of several books (which she writes incredibly fast like oh my word I can’t even) and a keeper of dragons. She’s a huge inspiration to me and her awesome blog, Instagram and Twitter always make me swoon and laugh and aspire to her awesomeness. Basically, go follow her right now or we can’t be friends.

So without further babbling, let’s get on with this interview!

What made you decide to start a book blog?
Once upon a time my older sister said, "You should start a blog" and, being a smaller sister I OBEYED QUICKLY. (You know how those older sisters are...mildly bossy and not to be messed with.) (I joke! I joke!) But my blog actually started as a writer/travel blog to document my adventures on a China holiday. It quickly turned to books because, hello, I am obsessed with books. I would EAT books, I love them so.

Bookmarks: love ‘em, hate ‘em, both ’em?
LOVE 'EM. But I have a complex relationship with them because a) they like to grow legs and run off on their own, darn them, and b) my dog thinks they're tasty and devours them while I'm engrossed in a chapter, and c) I usually can't find one when I'm in a flap and end up using random scraps of paper. Or even my kindle. I have literally used my kindle as a bookmark omg.

Your top three literally favorite FAVORITE books ever?
YOU ASK CRUEL QUESTIONS, ABBIE. MY HEART HURTS RIGHT NOW. This is so so ridiculously hard...okay, OKAY.
  1. All The Maggie Stiefvater Books -- yes this is cheating, but shhhh. I love Maggie Stiefvater. LOVE. I have read all her books and occasionally I just dance around with them like a wild, gleeful melon. THAT IS MY LOVE. (But seriously, read The Raven Boys. Everyone must.)
  2. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. This book made me cry. Books do not usually make me cry, so you see how special this is?!? I felt so sucked into this book I suffocated in its glory.
  3. There are a zillion books I want to put here...but I'll be calm and pick Bone Gap by Lauren Ruby. It's a new favourite. It is whimsical and beautiful and features the most ADORABLE creature called Finn who falls in love with a vinegar flavoured girl who raises bees and they eat s'mores dipped in honey and get kidnapped by evil. Plus the writing is divine. #goals I MEAN WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE HERE?

Is “reading” an audiobook still considered reading a book?
OF COURSE. Reading is storytelling and storytelling can be via audio! I grew up with my mum reading out loud to me and I definitely considered it "reading".

Which is better – audiobooks or physical books?
I feel like I remember audiobooks better and they stick in my brain for longer...but who can deny the gorgeousness of holding a book. And the smell! And the feel! And photographing the pretty pages! So I'll pick physical books, but audios are still epic wonders.

How will you improve Pinterest when you take over the world?
Oh, oh I am so glad you asked. Because I have so many plans. *rolls out 9ft long scroll of improvements* For starters we need boards inside of boards. ULTIMATE ORGANISATION. It is the thing of dreams and life. Secondly rearranging pins! So if one wants to group them aesthetically they can. Clearly I need to rush my domination plans so I can make this happen, ASAP.

Favorite book-to-movie adaptation?
I think they did a flawless job on The Book Thief! I can't vouch for how accurate the ending was though because I WAS TOO BUSY SHOUTING NO! NO! And collapsing on the floor howling.

A scene from a book that you wish they had written into the movie?
I will forever be sad that Catching Fire skipped the scene where Finnick and Katniss sneak up on Peeta and scare the life out of him with their poison pocked faces. It was hysterical in the books. Right before the book went back to killing everything I loved -- so a nice light moment?! I can't believe the movie skipped it!

Write a tweet to summarize one of your favorite books. (fdjklsing is allowed.)
Army Boy falls in love with Hacker Girl & they fight a galactic war WITH EVIL COMPUTER & finishes with me screaming & sobbing kumbaya in the corner. #Illuminae

What is the worst thing that happened to you while photographing a book?
I dropped my books in a puddle. I'm still in shock from it actually, and several of my books have mud stains on the pages. "How did this happen, Cait?" you demand. I DON'T EVEN KNOW. One moment they were on my verandah rail and the next they were launching towards freedom and I was launching after them.

If a cake and a dragon were both drowning and you could only save one, which would you save?
The dragon. Because with the dragon's help I could bake MORE cakes (a dragon would make a wonderful grill/oven). But let's be real: I would probably drown too because I swim like a broken marshmallow and the world would end in tragedy and darkness. #legit

The biggest of thank you’s to Cait for doing this interview! It was so much fun and a total pleasure to chat with my Pineapple Queen. What did you guys think? Isn’t her monster bookshelf totally epic? I think so too. And her plans for Pinterest are on point.

love,
abbiee

kind words are like raindrops on the desert. they make me bloom with happiness, as absolutely cliche and cheesy as that sounds. even if it's just a simple alt+3 i will heart you for it. so, go ahead! MAKE MY DAY. literally.
