west coast diaries - part one: the drive + the badlands

May 12. We’re on the west coast. In Washington. How we got here, I am glad I didn't document. Let's just say that it was a very, VERY long drive. Yikes. We stopped in the badlands and that was really cool. It's amazing that the landscape has survived to this day. You would think that the rock formations are really solid, but they're not. We got out and walked around a bit, so I could see what the formations really look and feel like. The substance is almost...warm. And it nearly crumbles when you touch it. Very interesting stuff.

------------

Yeah, I've been meaning to do this for a while. Technically, we took this crazy road trip across the country last year. But I've had TONS (and tons and tons and tons) of pictures sitting on my laptop ever since and you know the sad part? NO ONE HAS SEEN THEM. Nope, not even my family. Okay, so they have seen some. But not with cool edits and stuff. Which brings me to....

No, I didn't just "slap a filter" on. While I edit the photos for this blog series, I'm not just jamming them through an Instagrammy filter grider (is there such a thing? THERE IS.) I'm really taking my time to decide what kind of feeling I want a particular set of photos to embody. I want you to see and feel what I saw and felt when I took these photos.

Oh and another plus: you get to read my travel journal. (Yikes!) Seriously, dudes. I decided when we went on this trip that I would really devote myself to actually keeping a journal (electronic, but...come on) and writing down EVERY SINGLE THING we did. Obviously I won't force y'all to read about every single thing we did, but I will include a little blurb (like this one above) straight from my ranty documentations. (;

This will all make sense to me one day.
love,
abbiee

kind words are like raindrops on the desert. they make me bloom with happiness, as absolutely cliche and cheesy as that sounds. even if it's just a simple alt+3 i will heart you for it. so, go ahead! MAKE MY DAY. literally.
